As much of a fan as I was of the first season of CBC’s Triple Sensation, last summer’s musical theatre/reality television hybrid, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, left me tepid.
Ten finalists vied to play Maria in the Toronto production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Local actor Jayme Armstrong (Little Shop of Horrors, URP) came in a close third to Surrey’s Elicia MacKenzie (High School Musical, URP), who won the iconic role.
The final 10 return to CBC Wednesday night, a year later, in a one-hour documentary on how the show affected their lives. The show promises an appearance by Andrew Lloyd Webber and the teaser that one of the finalists will be appearing in one of his new productions.
10 Marias: 1 Year Later airs Wednesday, June 24 at 9 PM on CBC and repeats on CBC Newsworld.
I really enjoyed the update. I didn’t follow the show too much (I followed who won, but rarely watched.) But really liked the unrestricted nature of the tv update. My only wish is that they spoke about the Simon situation – might’ve been interesting to see reactions.
I’d nearly forgotten about Simon Lee’s legal troubles. I wonder what ended up happening to him. (As much as I complained about the show, I did watch the whole series.)
